David M. Ehrlich is the founder of the New York-based entertainment and media practice law firm David M. Ehrlich & Associates. David and his firm provide services in the entertainment industry including music, film, television, fine arts, sports, mobile, gaming, interactive media, and live theatre.

David received his Bachelor of Science degree at Cornell University before attending the Boston University School of Law, where he received his JD in 1986. He is a member of both New York and Connecticut bars.  [LinkedIn]

David began his career with Epstein Becker & Green P.C. before his interest in entertainment law drew him to EMI Records. Three years later, he moved to Los Angeles and took a position with Myman Abell Fineman Greenspan, a prominent Los Angeles-based entertainment firm.

In 1998, David returned to New York to accept a Vice President and East Coast General Manager position with Priority Records, a subsidiary of EMI Music Group. In 2001, he moved to Universal Records as an A&R Consultant, acting as a talent scout and identifying business opportunities for Universal. He acted as content counsel for the music collaboration platform Zingy and as Chief Music Industry Strategist and Counsel for Rednote, which became Audiobyte, the producer of social media soundbyte sharing Gifnote, that allows users to insert music bytes into popular messaging platforms.

Before starting his own firm, David was an attorney and personal manager where he represented a host of Grammy-winning artists and producers including Nickelback, Wu-Tang Clan, Dilated Peoples, Bob Power, Prince Paul, Dale Penner, The Gravediggaz (Gee Street/Island), RZA (Gee Street/Island), and Holly McNarland (Universal). In a joint venture with Famous Music Publishing/Viacom, he also founded the music publishing company Infamous Beats Music.  He now has an independent publishing company, Song Collect Music Publishing, which is a standalone music publishing and administration company.

David also serves as an independent talent scout and most notably discovered and shopped the multi-platinum recording artists Nickelback, whom he brought to the then independent, Roadrunner Records. Other discoveries include Tina Parol (Universal Motown), Wu-Tang Clan (RCA), Juno Award winner Holly McNarland, Australian pop star, Amy Shark, and superstar producer Danja.

In addition to client representation, David M. Ehrlich produced the soundtrack to the Oscar-winning film “Training Day”, starring Denzel Washington. David also consults with the video gaming industry on issues such as content and intellectual property rights for mobile distribution.

He also consults with a variety of artists to develop their projects be it in music, film, television, or theatre.

Current and former clients of David include Katharine McPhee, Nate “Danja” Hills, Marcella “Ms. Lago” Araica, and Bob Power. His corporate client list includes television companies and talent involved with CBS Networks, Adult Swim, and Nickelodeon, advertising agencies, mobile application companies, software developers, record labels, and music publishers including 212 Media, Rednote, Activision, and TVT Records and Publishing.

Throughout his career, David has effectively bridged the worlds of talent, production, and technology, with content and intellectual property at its core.

David was born in Detroit, MI, raised in NY, and spent a part of his career living in Los Angeles, CA. In his spare time, David is a competitive water skier, surfer, and tennis player. He also is an avid golfer and enjoys watching and playing the sport whenever he has the chance.
